Grace Flores

Altagracia (Grace) first worked as an elevator attendant at the Plaza Hotel at the corner of St. Mary's and Market streets in San Antonio, TX, where she met her husband, Abelardo Flores. They married in St. Phillip of Jesus Catholic Church on November 1948. She was a working mother who worked at Finesilver as a seamstress of uniforms. Grace's "uniform" consisted of a black skirt and a white blouse, and she believed that even if one was poor, one must be clean. Her wish was for her children to have a Catholic education and worked toward and accomplished that goal. She retired and cared for her grandchildren at home and sewed her family's clothes until her eyesight faded. Grace loved plants and had a green thumb. She would nurse withering plants brought by family and return them in a better state. If there was a family illness, crisis, etc., Grace could be counted on to light her candle and keep you in daily prayer.

Survived by husband of 66 years, Abelardo G. Flores; daughters: Adi L. Rodriguez (Eddie), Dora Sawyer (Steve) and son, Abelardo J. Flores (Dorothy); and grandchildren: Sonia Greer, Maricella Rodriguez, Edwardo Rodriguez Jr., Sandra Flores-Surprise, Jennifer Garcia, Paige Marg, Jessica Gonzales, and Alexa Rae Flores. Great-Grandchildren: Justin and Jonah Garcia, and two great-granddaughters on the way. Surviving siblings: Luis Rodriguez, Raymond Rodriguez, and Ted Rodriguez, Rachel Carrera, and Chavela Quesada.

Pre-deceased by siblings: Victoriano Rodriguez Jr., Phillip Rodriguez, Antonio Rodriguez, Juanita Cantu, Patsy Logan, Maria Guerrero, Ofelia Guerra, and Stella Sanchez.
