Guadalupe Hernandez

Guadalupe Hernandez went to be with the Lord on February 4, 2017. Guadalupe was born in Seguin, Texas and raised by his mother with the help of his affectionate aunts and uncles. He grew up with many cousins by his side, which he considered as brothers and sisters. He attended school at Sacred Heart of Mary and graduated from Lanier High School. In July of 1963 he joined the Marine Corps, became a Sergeant in 1966. He did three tours of duty in Vietnam and was awarded two Purple Hearts. His service to this country will never be forgotten. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of service. He married the love of his life in 1968, was a great husband, loving and affectionate father and the Best Grandpa in the World. He was also a fabulous uncle, cousin and friend; a person many admired and looked up to. He was our Hero and Protector. He enjoyed reading, fishing and listening to his favorite music. He was a master griller was always ready to BBQ. Surprisingly he liked to look through Facebook, but most of all he loved family gatherings. He was preceded in death by his loving mother Benita R. Hernandez, father Rogelio Hernandez and brothers Ignacio Hernandez and Henry Hernandez. He is survived by his loving wife Francisca Hernandez, children Becky H. Martinez (Jose A. Martinez Jr.), Mike C. Hernandez (Raquel Hernandez) and Roger C. Hernandez (Mary Hernandez), and sister Carolina Valverde. God granted us the opportunity to say goodbye and to express our love, for this we will always be grateful. Our hearts ache over his loss. Our memories and knowing he is reunited with loved ones passed serve as our consolation. We will miss him dearly. Once a Marine always a Marine. Semper Fidelis. Hoorah Sergeant G. Hernandez. Visitation will held on Thursday February 9, 2017 from 4pm to 9pm with a rosary at 7pm at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday February 10, 2017 at 10am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
