Hermila Moreno Medrano was born on September 8, 1918, in Monterrey, Mexico to Camilo Moreno and Sofia Medrano Moreno. Hermila was one of 13 children born to Camilo and Sofia. Her parents passed away in 1923, and 3 months later Hermila, just 5 years old, and her siblings who ranged in ages from 18 to 2 years of age moved to San Antonio, Texas with relatives.
Hermila married Porfirio Medrano in April of 1939, and together they had 4 children whose names are Alma, Rene, Camilo and Elva.
Hermila worked as a sales lady for Solo Serve, Thom Mcan and Joske’s Department Store where she worked in the shoe department for many years until her retirement. She took pride in her work at Joske’s and would tell her grandchildren that she even sold shoes to a young Henry Cisneros when he went to the store with his mother.
Hermila’s house was everyone’s home. Shortly after she bought her house in 1946, any families or family member needing a place to live were welcomed.
Hermila was strong in faith and giving of heart. She attended St. Josephs Church and gave to numerous charities.
Hermila was the pillar of her family, which through the years has grown to 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-children and 1 great, great-grandchild.
