OBITUARY

Irene C. Cosme

December 7, 1925November 29, 2018

On November 29, 2018, Mrs. Irene Cosme was called home to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family as they prayed the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Prayers.

Ms. Irene, as she was lovingly known by family, friends, and business associates, was born in Gillett, Texas to Monica and Cleto Cruz. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Manuel A. Cosme; brothers Richard T. Cruz and George T. Cruz.

She was mother to Rose Cosme, Sylvia Sanchez (Manuel), Diana Cosme (John Aguilar), Manuel Cosme Jr., Anita Cosme (Greg Wolff), and Alma Cosme (Patrick Waggoner); grandmother to Wesley Sanchez (Laura), Ashley Sanchez, Danielle Cosme, and Erik Cosme; great-grandmother to Corey, Robert, and Pyper Sanchez.

Ms. Irene was a successful small business owner. She started repurposing, recycling, and re-selling antiques and vintage finds at a local flea market over 40 years ago. As her children grew older, she began teaching them everything she knew about the business. Ms. Irene eventually joined her children in selling her antiques and vintage finds in her booth-tiques at Homestead Handcrafts in northeast San Antonio. Today, her children still practice all they have learned from Ms. Irene.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 17, 2018 from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Funeraria del Angel Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N. Main Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Jude Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

On behalf of the residents and staff of The Village at Incarnate Word, I want to express our deepest sympathy to the Cosme family on your great loss. We have been praying daily for her and for you. Your mom was a woman of great faith and strength; I pray that God bless you with a "double portion" of that faith and strength as you continue with her in your heart, but no longer in your arms.
