

Jerry Wayne Swartz, 61, passed away on July 20, 2011. He was born in Maysville, Kentucky on January 18, 1950 to parents, Donald and Helen Swartz. After graduating high school, Jerry enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, becoming an electronic optical equipment technician. As gunnery sergeant, “Gunny” served two tours in Vietnam and earned sharpshooter recognition for both rifle and pistol. After returning to the States, Jerry served at the White House during the Nixon Administration and was a proud sentry at Washington National Cemetery and was stationed at Camp LaJeune, NC. Decorations included a Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, RVNMUC Cross of Gallantry, RVNMUC Civic Action Color w/palm; Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Additionally, he served his “brothers” and fellow man as a Mason beginning in 1981 in Okinawa, Japan and received Scottish Rite 33rd degree status in Lodge 118, F. & A.M. He also acted as Aloha president of the Phillipine Shrine Chapter. Upon retirement, Jerry moved to San Antonio and worked for ING and Reliastar selling insurance. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald and his sister, Gail. Jerry is survived by his son, Robert, mother, Helen Trumbo, sisters Frances, Donna, and Rhonda, brothers Emerson Lee and Steven and companion, Nancy de Wied. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 28th, 2011, from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM with a funeral service beginning at 10:00AM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers.
