Joe H. Compean Jr.

Joe was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 20, 1942 to Carmen H. and Joe A. Compean. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who supported his family's projects and attended all their events. He graduated from Edgewood High School, married his high school sweetheart Hortense (Tencha). After high school, Joe served in the United States Navy in the 1960s. He had great work ethic and spent his entire career working in the grocery industry that allowed him to provide a good life for his family along with a catholic school education for his daughters. Joe was a socialite and could strike up a conversation with anybody anywhere; the grocery store, the car wash, the drive thru, or even just waiting in line. He was an avid runner back in the 80s, having many 5Ks under his belt and was a member of the Alamo Trail Ride. He happily devoted his retirement time to his three grandkids, afterschool pickup bunch, drives to practice and attending their school sports or events, he is their #1 fan. Perhaps most importantly, second only to his family, Joe was a diehard Spurs fan and a member of the baseline bums for over 20 years, starting back in the Hemisfair Arena. He was the BEST Papo, Dad and Poppy.

He is preceded by both of his parents and his infant brother, Edward Compean. Joe married his high school sweetheart and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hortense Compean; his 3 daughters, Monica Compean (Zina), Veronica Olivarri (Joseph), and Tracey Jo Carrizales (Ron); his 3 grandchildren, Lauren Marie Olivarri, Lindsey Rose Olivarri, Joe Levi Carrizales; sisters, Carmen Garcia (deceased 2/2/2025), Guillerma Converse, Luz Aguilar, and Ester Avila; as well numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
