

Jose was a devoted father, grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his son, Joe E. Vela; his daughters, Sylvia Vela and Diana Vela Vargas; his brothers, Salvador Vela, Alejandro Vela, and Enrique (Henry) Vela; and his five cherished grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose Isabel Vela and Lucia Garcia Vela, his sisters, Jesusa Vela Gonzales,Josefa Vela Perez, Delia Vela Vargas, Eloise Vela Noyola,Feliberta Vela Esquivel, and Olga Vela Ortegon.
The following family members will serve as pallbearers: Joe Ernest Vela, Eric Adam Vela, Matthew Torres, Robert Vela, Salvador Vela Jr, Enrique "Henry" Vela, Armando Vargas Jr, Rogelio Rivera. Honorary Pallbearers Alexander Joseph Vela, Salvador Vela and Alejandro Vela.
Jose found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid sports fan who especially loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, and he enjoyed spending time playing the accordion, sharing music and moments with family and friends.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind, and he will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for music, and his enduring spirit.
Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205, US, on April 6, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the Rosary at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205, US, on April 6, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Mass will take place at Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower, 1715 N Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78201, US, on April 7, 2026, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, followed by a Graveside Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209, US, on April 7, 2026, from 11:30 am to 11:50 am.
