Juan M. Lopez, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on December 25, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 91. Born on August 28, 1933, in San Antonio, Juan lived a full and distinguished life, marked by his devotion to his family, his service to his country, and his love for the outdoors.
Juan was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His dedication to duty earned him the prestigious 41st Honors as Airman of the Quarter in 1961, from Itazuke's 8th Field Maintenance Squadron, where he also garnered top honors in the 41st Air Division. Juan’s service and leadership were instrumental in the success of his unit and were a testament to his commitment to his country.
In his personal life, Juan was a loving husband to Carolina Pagada Lopez, with whom he shared 15 years of marriage. He was a devoted father to his stepchildren: John Edward, Mark Sylvester, and Beverlyn. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Julie Lopez, Johnny Eric Lopez, Crystal Burgess, and Josiah Lopez
Juan was preceded in death by his mother, Francisca Mendoza Lopez; father, Guadalupe Lopez; his brother, Lupito; and his children Lucy and Johnny. He was also preceded by several aunts and uncles, including Fidel Mendoza, Frank Mendoza, Celestino Mendoza, Jose Mendoza, Tony Mendoza, Chano Mendoza, Consuelo Mendoza, Gregoria Mendoza, and Manuel Lopez.
A man of many interests, Juan loved the outdoors, spending his free time camping, fishing, boating, and embarking on road trips. His love for adventure and exploration brought joy to his life and created lasting memories for his family. Juan was known for his infectious humor and charismatic personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. His family was always his priority, but his ability to bring joy and laughter to others was something that endeared him to everyone in his life. Known for his quick wit and jokes, Juan had a unique gift for brightening up any room. He made doctors, nurses, friends, and strangers alike laugh with his jokes, and it was these moments of levity that defined him.
Above all, Juan cherished spending time with his loved ones, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, his children: Joe Lopez, Jesse Lopez, Jerry Lopez, Laura L. Garza, Vanessa L. Lopez, stepchildren, siblings Gloria, Cruz, Rudy, Rosalinda, and Melchora, and his grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Juan’s memory will forever be cherished by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His unwavering spirit, kindness, and dedication to his loved ones will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
