Katherine C. Vidal

January 19, 1966April 2, 2021

Katherine C. Vidal, born January 19, 1966, went to be with our Lord on April 2, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas. Kathy was born in Hondo, Texas, and was a resident of San Antonio, Texas, at the time of her passing. She was also a resident of Eagle Pass, Texas, from 1996 until 2018. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesus Castillo, and her in-laws, Alex and Mary Vidal. Kathy is survived by her husband of nearly 25 years, Robert E. Vidal, and four children, daughter, Kandyce N. Quintanilla; son, Kristopher W. Quintanilla; son, Kalab N. Vidal; son, Kyle R. Vidal; mother, Yolanda Castillo; brother, Joe Ray Castillo; and sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Castillo; numerous aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Kathy graduated from South San West Campus High School in 1984. She worked for the San Antonio Express News for many years. After that, she was employed by the State of Texas at the Department of Human Services. It was there that she met the love of her life. Married in 1996, they moved to Eagle Pass, Texas, where she worked for the Eagle Pass ISD, before going back to work for the Texas Department of Human Services. She, eventually, was hired at the Maverick County Hospital District (MCHD) as a case worker, assisting applicants with finding financial assistance with medical services. Years of dedicated service to MCHD, led her to rise to the position of Coordinator of the Indigent Program until her retirement in 2017. The majority of her employment was related to assisting others. It was her nature. It was on April 10, 2017 that she received a diagnosis of Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). This was a devastating blow to Kathy and her family, but she fought valiantly for 4 years. In the face of impossible odds, Kathy faced each day with a determination like no other. Every day, week, month brought new struggles, but it never defeated her spirit. She battled this illness to the very end. She approached each day with optimism and hope. As her body gave out, she accepted it with grace. Her mind remained strong and she remained a source of inspiration to us all. All her family and friends will deeply miss her, but know that she is in a better place, free of pain, able to walk and run again. Visitation will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 2:00pm- 4:00pm at Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N. Main Ave. Visitation will continue at 5:30pm Friday, April 9, 2021 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 202 N. St. Mary's Street with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. A procession will depart the funeral 9:30am Saturday for a 10:00 am Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment to follow in Moore Catholic Cemetery in Moore, TX.

Bob,
You and your family are in our prayers. May our Blessed Mother comfort you and cover you with her mantle of love.
We were friends with your parents since CCHS days and so admired your Mom and Dad's dedication of service to church, school and family. When we met Kathy, we were happy to include her as part of your wonderful family. She was always so friendly and willing to be a friend to all. The last time she came to our home, she said, " Let's have lunch", as y'all were leaving. We will never forget her. May she rest in peace.

Kathy was a very Special Niece to me. She has been a part of my life since she was a baby. When I was a teenager, Kathy always wanted to be hanging around me. I feel we had a special Aunt & Niece relationship. I will truly miss her, but know she is no longer suffering. My heart goes out to her Mom, husband, children, & siblings. May my Sweet Niece RIP❤️🙏🏼
