Lorene Martin

Lorene Martha Martin went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21, 2011. She was born on December 2, 1922 in Manheim, Texas. She was the ninth of fourteen children born to August and Louise (Nee Scmhidt) Behrend. She was Baptized on December 17, 1922 and she was Confirmed on March 29, 1936. Lorene married James Phillip Martin from Chattanooga, TN. on August 23, 1947 in San Antonio, TX. They were married for 34 years until his death in June 1981. Lorene faithfully attended Redeemer Lutheran Church all her life. She was the church and school secretary for 27 years and was very committed to her role in doing the Lord’s work. She was very active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She loved working with plants either at home or at the church. Her favorite plant was the geranium. She enjoyed sewing, so much that she had at least two sewing machines at all times. Lorene was preceded in death by her eight siblings – brothers Herbert, Albert, and Milton Behrend and sisters Gertrude Willmann, Lydia Romund, Edna Ardlt, Dora Moerbe, and Esther Theiss. She is survived by five siblings – brothers Alton and Erwin Behrend and sisters Florence Land, Anita Markwardt, and Gloria Stengel, two sons and daughter-in-laws; Steven Dale Martin and his wife Cindy, and Douglas Dean Martin and his wife Kathi, two grandchildren: Brittany Michelle Martin and Trent Michael Martin. She has many nieces and nephews that are also part of her life. Lorene will be missed by all. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 26 at 11 am at Redeemer Lutheran Church 2507 Fredricksburg Rd. with a Funeral Service to follow at 12:00pm. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
