Born on July 22, 1940, in Hondo, Texas, Magdalena was a woman of profound faith, kindness, and service. She graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1958, where she embraced the school’s motto, “Serviam,” meaning “I will serve,” a principle she carried with her throughout her life. Her legacy of selfless dedication to others was evident in every aspect of her life, and she made an indelible impact on the lives of those who knew her.
Magdalena retired from The University of Texas Health Science Center after 27 years of devoted service to the State, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cipriano and Santos Camero, and her brother, Candelario (Sam) Camero. Magdalena is survived by her three daughters, Laura Palencia (Raymond), Elizabeth Hernandez (Emilio), and Blanca Perez (Robert); her brothers, Deacon "Joe" Camero (Alicia), Guadalupe Camero (Bertha), and Arthur Camero (Mary); her sister, Santos "Sandy" Camero; her maternal uncle, Francisco Cortez (92); along with her cherished grandchildren: Jacquelyn Alonzo (Bryan A), Ashley Villarreal (Adrian), Michael Perez, Arthur Serrato III, and Brisa Alcantara. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Bryan M. Zamora, Jonah Resendez, and Mila Villarreal, who brought her much joy; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Magdalena's family and friends will forever remember her for her unwavering love, her devotion to family, and the grace with which she lived her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and strength that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A rosary to celebrate Magdalena’s life will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Funeraria del Angel Roy Akers, 515 N Main Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78205. Visitation will follow after the rosary is over. A funeral mass will occur Monday, December 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 1710 Clower, San Antonio, Texas 78201. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78266.
