While in Spokane, Washington she met her future husband, and married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on July 8, 1942 a short time before he was deployed to Europe during WWII. She continued to work as an RN in Washington, Florida, Pennsylvania and South Carolina until he returned. She will be fondly remembered as owner of Oak Hills Drug Store on Fredericksburg Road, where she worked with her husband until his death in 1970. After his death she went it alone, until closing in 1986. She was a force to reckon with in a working world dominated by men at the time, but her most outstanding qualities were her compassion and care that affected the lives of many people.
