Our mom, Mariela Rodriguez, was born on February 2, 1953, in Cali, Colombia. Some of her favorite childhood memories were playing in the streets with friends and running through the rain. Even as a child, she found joy in life's simple moments.
She was the kind of person who always put others before herself and loved fiercely. If there was one way our mom showed her love, it was through food. She believed no one should ever leave her home hungry, and every meal she prepared carried a little piece of her heart. Her arroz con pollo, sancocho, empanadas, and tamales became family staples. Especially during the holidays, we knew we would eat well and be surrounded by the warmth that only she could create.
She also loved to connect with people. Whether it was a long phone call with a friend or catching up with family, she never missed an opportunity to talk, laugh, and stay connected to the people she loved.
She was kind, positive, and always smiling. In her quieter moments, she enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, coloring in her coloring books, and watching her favorite YouTube channels. Whether she was following a cooking show or keeping up with the latest celebrity gossip, her iPad was never far from reach.
No matter how old we got, she never stopped being our mom. She celebrated our victories, worried through our struggles, and reminded us every day that we were loved.
Our mom was strong, beautiful, and the most caring person we have ever known. Her absence leaves a void in our lives that can never truly be filled, but her love, laughter, and the memories she gave us will remain with us forever.
Mariela is survived by her children, Harold, Mauricio, Marcela, and Stephanie. As well as Hernan Dario who she loved as her own.
She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Andres, Kennedy, Adrian, Daniella, Zachary, Angelique, Esteban, and Madison.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that her love lives on in all of us. We will carry her memory with us always, finding her in family gatherings, shared meals, long conversations, and the traditions she passed down to us. Her story does not end here—it continues through the children, grandchildren, family, and friends who were fortunate enough to be loved by her.
Mami, Te Amamos con toda el alma y corazón. Nos vas hacer una falta inmensa.
