Pablo Perez Uriegas (73) of San Antonio, Texas, a brave warrior who fought and conquered many battles, was surrounded by loved ones when he lost his greatest battle with Myasthenia Gravis and was called home on April 22, 2023.
Pablo is survived by his wife of 55 years Carmen, daughters Virginia (Dan Mitzelman), Jo Ann (Jesus Martinez), and Rebecca (Robert E. Kribel Jr.). He is also survived by his four siblings Ramon (Diana), Sylvia, Norma (Gary), Sarah, several nieces, and nephews. Pablo is preceded in death by his parents, Ramon and Tomasa, brother David, and granddaughter Gabriella Martinez.
Pablo attended and graduated from Sydney Lanier High School where he was a member of the JROTC. After high school Pablo served in the US Marine Corps from 1968-1970, he received several service medals. Pablo was honorably discharged after being wounded during the Vietnam war and was awarded The Purple Heart Medal.
At the time of his discharge from service Pablo’s father passed, he hurried home to help his grieving family and proudly took on the responsibility of helping raise his siblings. He worked as an electrician where he was encouraged to return to school. Pablo earned an Associate of Arts in Architectural Drafting, his work so impressive that his drawings hung in the hallways of St. Philip’s College for years.
He fought personal battles left by the war, through it all he remained a proud Veteran and Marine. Conquering those battles is what gave him the courage and strength he needed to battle his illness. Until the very end, he fought a good fight.
Pablo, fondly known as Paul, was many things, and you could always ensure he would be the mischievous one creating laughter amongst friends and family.
Pablo was an avid hunter, loved working on cars, and fishing trips to the coast. His greatest joy and pastimes were making memories with his grandchildren Pablo Uriegas (Sarah), Jesus Martinez (Amberly), Amanda DeLeon (Paul), Samantha Harpel (Nickolas), Erica Livingston (Matthew), Victoria, Veronica and Aaron Mitzelman, and Robert E. Kribel III, and his great grandchildren Zeno, Beau, Catalaya, Izel, Cameron, Zapporah, and Jesus. They loved his jokes, playing scrabble, cards, dominoes, and learning to fish and hunt. He was their greatest fan and biggest supporter.
Pablo was kind to all, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend. He is missed and when remembered, remember him in the image cruising in his Camaro singing to the Beatles with a big smile on his face.
The family expresses gratitude for the wonderful care provided by Trinity Hospice of San Antonio and to Ms. Brenda with VA Respite Care.
