This is Delia Zarate Gonzalez , with a heavy heart, letting you know that my father , Ricardo Martinez Zarate passed away on July 27 , 2022 . He was quite ill for the last 20 years but the last 2 years were especially difficult for him . The Lord has called him home , in Peace , the way we prayed.
Dad married Margarita Rodriguez on September 20, 1957 . Ricardo and Margarita raised 4 children and have 4 grandchildren . Children - Perla Zarate Abbott, Christine Zarate, Delia Zarate Gonzalez ( Robert) , and John Daniel Zarate ( Cynthia ), and grandchildren -Richard Benjamin Zarate , Joshua Daniel Zarate , Sarah Lee Anne Zarate , and Xander Nathaniel Zarate.
He served in the Army during the Korean War. By trade , Dad repaired electronics and then worked 30 years in the Auto Insurance industry. He was a cook in the army and could put together a mean barbecue dinner. He was a protector of children in his younger years . Many children stayed at one time or another under his roof. He loved traveling and would take family and friends on long trips .
But , most important of all , he was a believer in Jesus Christ, born again Christian and studied the Bible until he lost his sight. All knowledge he obtained was passed to his family ,and friends seeking the Lord. He loved the House of the Lord and taught his family to do the same.
Many thanks to ALL who prayed , helped with his care, supported his caregivers, and especially the Veterans Affairs system in San Antonio and lastly , Roy Akers funeral home .
A committal service for Richard will be held Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 9:00 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
