

Roy Gonzalez, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, passed away on April 7, 2025 at the age of 85. Born on February 24, 1940, to Roque F. Gonzalez and Anita Munoz Gonzalez, Roy lived a life full of dedication to his family, his country, and his passions.
Roy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in June 1959, proudly serving for 7 years, 11 months, and 27 days. His service included foreign and sea duty, where he was stationed on the USS Coral Sea as part of the Admiral's Marine Detachment. Throughout his service, Roy earned numerous accolades, including the Good Conduct Medal (1st and 2nd award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with a device. He graduated from both electronic and avionics schools and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1969. In addition, Roy worked as an associate with Ling-Temco-Vaught Corp.
He had a deep passion for sports and was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and San Antonio Spurs.
Roy is survived by his daughters, Monica, Ida, Iris, and Isis; his grandchildren, Levi and Tatum; his siblings, sisters Alicia (James) Cole, Gloria De Leon, Eva Lozano, Ana Maria (Annie) Zamora, and Rosie (Jack) Oneto; brothers Ramiro and Ruben Gonzalez. He is also survived by several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Roque and Anita; brothers Roque Jr., Richard, Robert, and sisters Helen (Angelita) and America
We would like to thank Roy's sister, Helen, for welcoming him into her home where they spent almost 30 years together, watching over each other. We are sure Helen welcomed Roy into heaven so they could continue to watch television together forever!"

Roy will be remembered for his loyalty, strong work ethic, and love for his family and country. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of service and devotion. His family and friends will cherish the memories of his vibrant personality and his love for life.
A visitation for Roy will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A rosary will occur Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A funeral mass will occur Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at St Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 9883 Marbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78245. A graveside service will occur Thursday, May 1, 2025 from 11:15 AM to 11:35 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
