Ruben worked with VIA Metropolitan Transit for 31 years, and was a member of the Amalgamated Transit Union 694. Upon retiring, he served as President of the ATU 694 Retirees chapter, as well as the President of the AFL-CIO Hank Brown Retirees chapter. Ruben served as a Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus for St. Patrick's Catholic Church. "For many years, he would host a Christmas Event with the 694 Retirees Chapter for local underprivileged elementary students by giving them a day filled with a holiday lunch, pictures with Santa and gifts for each student.
Ruben enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and other destinations with family and loved ones. He enjoyed organizing holiday dances and casino bus trips for the Retirees chapter. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his parents Guadalupe and Catarina Silva, sister Valentina, and daughter April.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years Rosalinda; sons Daniel and wife Maribel, Ruben Jr., Brian and wife Samantha, Michael and wife Jessica; siblings Guadalupe, Luis, David, Maria Ruth, and Maria Elena; grandchildren Jacob, Lorenzo, Kaitlyn, Hayden, Hunter, Emmanuel(EJ), Emma, Alex, Sofia, and Cynthia (Remie), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruben will be missed by those who knew him.
A visitation for Ruben will be held Monday, December 18, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A rosary will occur Monday, December 18, 2023 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Dr, San Antonio, TX 78228. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, December 19, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237.
