Steve Contreras Jr., 81, a long-time resident of the Austin/Round Rock and New Braunfels area passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022. Born October 12, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas, Steve attended college in Austin, Texas. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin. Steve was married to Sara Ayarzagotia of Premont, TX, his high school sweetheart in 1963. They were married for 43 years until her passing. Steve remarried Dolores C. Lopez of San Antonio, TX in 2008. They were married for nearly 14 years. He was a loving father to his only son, Michael Anthony and grandfather to his grandchildren, Jacob Anthony and Marissa Nicole. Steve’s work career included working for Tracor/BAE Systems, Inc, before retiring. He was a Life-time member of the Rocky Mtn Elk Foundation, a conservation organization that helps wildlife by buying tracts of land to donate for public use. Steve had a passion for biking, photography, and hunting many species of deer, antelope, and with the goal of pursuing a trophy elk during his leisure time.
He is preceded in death by his late wife Sara Ayarzagotia and parents, Esteban Contreras Sr. and Maria Del Refugio Muñoz Contreras. Steve is survived by his wife Dolores C. Contreras of San Antonio, TX; son Michael Anthony Contreras and daughter-in-law Hermy N. Contreras, grandchildren Jacob Anthony Contreras, age 28 and Marissa Nicole Contreras, age 21 of Pflugerville, Texas; his sister Alice Contreras of San Antonio, TX; brother, Arturo Contreras and wife Betty Contreras of Simi Valley, CA with several nieces and nephews. The Contreras family would like to thank all of the staff of Seasons Alzheimer’s & Assisted Care, Sodalis Senior Living, Rio Terra Senior, Legend Oaks Healthcare & Rehabilitation, and the multiple hospitals where he was treated, for all they have done and the tremendous support they all provided to Steve during his stay.
Visitation for Steve will be held Thursday, June 30, 2022 3:00-5:00PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205; with rosary service to follow, at 7:00-8:00 PM. A funeral mass will be held Friday, July 1, 2022 from 9:00-10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist, 4603 St. John's Way, San Antonio, TX 78212. Graveside service will be on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 10:30-11:00 AM at San Fernando #2 Cemetery, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, TX 78237
