Sydney Earl McKeel, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at the age of 84. He was born in New Bern, North Carolina, to parents, Leslie and Zelphia McKeel, on September 10, 1928. Sydney was an avid outdoorsmen, enjoying camping, fishing and travel. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War and in Vietnam, earning multiple metals including the bronze star. Sydney will always be remembered for the love and dedication he had for his family and his country. He will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Vernon McKeel, Maxine Bahmer, Leslie McKeel, Billy McKeel, Doris Farmer and Donald McKeel. Sydney is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sriya McKeel; children, Darrell R. McKeel, Rose M. Nicholas (John), Salitporn “Sal” McKeel (Anna), Sidney McKeel (Olga), Seth McKeel (Patty), Sasi Faildo (Mark), Joe McKeel ; 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Peggy Sowell of Hamlet, N.C., Eleanor Smith of New Bern, N.C., Linda Irwin of Petersburg, IL and Emma Jean Calderwood of Harrisburg, N.C.; brothers, Thomas McKeel of Vanceboro, N.C. and Wayne McKeel of Vanceboro, N.C.; and numerous nieces nephews and friends. The family will receive friends at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 N. Main, on Tuesday February 19, 2013 from 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M., with a Prayer Service to begin at 7:00 p.m. A procession will depart the funeral home the following morning, Wednesday February 20, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. for a Graveside Service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
