Sylvia M. Garcia, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on November 15, 2024, at the age of 69. She was born on January 16, 1955, in San Antonio, Texas, to Alberto Mendoza and Mary Hernandez. Sylvia was a dedicated and loving wife to Frank L. Garcia, with whom she shared 46 years of marriage. Together, they raised two children, Christopher Frank Garcia and Stephanie Frances Garcia Cortez, and welcomed a granddaughter, Alena Garcia, who brought her much joy.
Sylvia is survived by her husband Frank; children Christopher and Stephanie; son-in-law Ricky Cortez; daughter-in-law Sandra Garcia; her granddaughter Alena; her siblings, Richard Mendoza and Yolanda Hernandez; as well as her sister-in-laws, Sylvia Mendoza and Linda Mendoza. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alberto and Mary Mendoza; her brother, Michael Mendoza; and her sister, Linda Amador.
Sylvia’s life was marked by her kindness, generosity, and love for her family and community. She was an avid lover of nature, spending many peaceful hours fishing and gardening. She also had a deep passion for sports, especially watching them with her family, and enjoyed traveling to new places. Sylvia was known for her dedication to helping others—she spent countless hours serving for her church and the local community, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.
Her vibrant spirit, warmth, and unshakable faith will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Sylvia’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, and her memory will continue to inspire all who were touched by her love and kindness.
A visitation for Sylvia will be held Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at St Leonard Catholic Church, 8510 S Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78224. A rosary will occur Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, 8510 S Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78224. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 8510 S Zarzamora St, San Antonio, TX 78224. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at San Fernando Cemetery III, 1735 Cupples Rd, San Antonio, TX 78226.
