Sylvia, I know Nanie welcomed you into heaven with opened arms, even tho she was sad that you had to leave behind your beautiful family. When my time comes, I know you and Nanie will be there waiting for me. We will once again be together as a family for eternity.I will miss you very much and will forever love you. Here is the Eulogy I read at Sylvia's funeral.  It has only been a day, and I already miss her.  

Good Evening, as you may already know I am Jeff, Sylvia’s son-in-law who is married to her daughter Blanca.  I came to this family some 23 years ago.  Right away I knew this is where I belonged.  The entire family welcomed me with open arms and accepted me as one of their own.  Sylvia being the catalyst of it all literally adopted me as her son, she provided me with the mothering guidance in the absence of my own mother.  In every word of the sense, She was and always will be “Mom”, I just wished I had enough courage to openly call her that, which is my only regret.  Today, though she is Mom to me.  
     I would listen intently to family stories and play them out as if I was always there from the beginning.  But if you know Sylvia, she began her life back in 1935, the country was just recovering from the great depression so times were pretty hard.  Stories about bean taco’s and rice were the only staples at the time.  Her mother Blanche ensured that her two daughters always had a roof over their heads and food on the table.  Sylvia persevered and was able to grow into a beautiful young lady and began living motherhood with her first two sons Henry and Rene, but that was not enough.  Sylvia’s passion was her kids, two more came along, Blanca and Danny.  From that point on you could not get the mother bear away from her cubs.  Sylvia was able to provide an environment to allow her children to grow into the outstanding adults they are now, with families of their own.  Sylvia may have had normal jobs, but ultimately her purposeful full time job was the safety and welfare of her children.  I don’t think I ever heard hear complain that it was tough raising 4 kids.  Yeah, each one presented challenges along the way, but at the end of the day, she stood by each and every single one of them.  She taught us about life as one of the most amazing people I have ever met and will probably ever meet. She spent her life caring for children and grandchildren; She never put herself before others.  She would often go out of her way to reach her kids who were in need.  She was also often a counselor when the times called for it.  I knew I could come to her no matter what the reason or circumstance.  I loved her with all my heart and will truly miss her.
     A few months ago, Sylvia was diagnosed with cancer and it was already in advanced stage.  Sylvia braved the first surgery, but knew what was in store for her.  Her battles were just beginning.  She recovered from the surgery with the will to fight this until the end.  Without falter, she weathered the chemotherapy and blood transfusions like a true warrior.  She took on the radiation with both guns a blazing, that when the smoked cleared she was the one still standing.  Unfortunately, the cancer was aggressive, but Sylvia fought until the very end.  If you know Sylvia, there was plenty of fight.  I believe in my heart that Sylvia made peace with God and He opened his arms and allowed another angel to join him.   
Daniel:  You are recognized as being a great man, Father, and husband.  Through your strength and unwaverable need to provide, you accepted her and made her your wife.  Through thick and thin you were always there.  You worked hard all your life to ensure each of your kids were always provided for.  Even when times were hard you managed to ensure fun with family vacations as a priority.  To this day, without hesitation you’ve been able to accommodate all their wants and needs.  
Auntie:  Her only sister with an unbroken bond between them.  Norma was always there throughout Sylvia’s life.  A Sister’s intuition couldn’t be any stronger between them.  Blanca, I and the rest of Sylvia’s family want to thank you Auntie from the bottoms of our hearts.  You have made these last several months easier with your unconditional love for us.  
Henry: The oldest of the boys, the one with the green eyes as Sylvia would always say.  She was very proud of the man you became.  You gave her the greatest gifts of life, her first grandkids, twins at that.  Continue to be strong and the voice of reason as this is what your mom wanted. 
Rene: You have made your mom proud.  I know she is grateful for everything you have done for her.  You always made her laugh with your stories and was happy when you took her to church with you.
Blanca: You were your mom’s precious “mija”.  She was there for you in all your times of need and never left your side.  Our Children could not have been as great as they are, if it were not for her.  Your mom lived for their smiles and hugs every day.  In your heart, I know you can feel the words “I love you”.
Danny:  You are your momma’s “Baby Huey”.  You have made your mom proud of the man you have become.  She would literally light up with smiles and sparkles in her eyes when you were around.  During your mom’s time of need you were there, just as she was for you.  Your mom would not have left this earth without knowing you would be okay, that’s just the way she was.  Tina, take good care of him as Sylvia taught you all you need to know.
In-laws:  Roxie, Maria and Tina.  She loved each and every one of you and knows her boys are going to be well taken care of with you by their side.
Roseanne: You were Sylvia’s other daughter; I know she is forever grateful for everything you have done for her and Blanca.  You were her personal doctor and medical interpreter.  The entire family thanks you from the bottom of our hearts.   
  
     Most important to Sylvia was her grandkids.  She lived for them as they were the joys of her life.  She was short on criticism and long on love.  There were two sides to Sylvia, the mother and the Grandmother.  Her greatest times were Christmas and birthdays when she could see the smiles as they grew.  Momo had a special connection with each one.  She was their friend, confidant, pillow and blanket.  All of her grandkids felt safe under her protected wings.  I have never seen her smile more then when her grandkids were around.  She has said all that she had to say, you must now honor her with the wisdom she has given you and live you lives to the fullest.  
     In closing, I would like to again thank you all for coming, this is proof that she was well loved.  I know she is with us today as she always will be.  You may feel the hugs and kisses, or that one raised eyebrow, but she is with us in our hearts.  Sylvia is Sleeping with the angels along side with Nanie and Pamp!

Sylvia- you are the best mother in law anyone could ever wish for, I now understand everything you said and did.  I cherish the close bond we had, and I will miss talking to you everday.  Thank you for being the great Momo and Mom you were to us, I know you are Maiah and Danna's guardian angel now.  Thank you for all the lessons you have taught me, and helping turn me into a good woman and a mom.  Thank you for being such a good mom to "mijo" Thank you for always being so patient, and always standing by his side during all of  his "rough years" he loves you so much, and you can rest easy knowing that he will be ok. I hope you knew how important you were to us all. You will be missed everyday, and I love you so much.  Sleep with the angels!!

Mom, thank you for the beautiful life you have given us and shared with us. We are going to miss you very much. You have been the mother, grandmother, auntie, that everyone would love to have.
