Velia Marin DeLeon entered the Heavens peacefully on March 19, 2018 surrounded by three generations of family as her great-granddaughter played “Thousand Years” on her flute at Parklane West Healthcare. After a long battle with Alzheimer’s she will be rejoined to her parents Antonio Marin and Estefana Flores Gonzales that she was born to on April 16, 1930. She was welcomed into the kingdom by her husband, Ramon DeLeon Jr, she wed on September 4, 1949. She will again dance with her son, Ramon DeLeon III, and will be hugged by son-in-law Christopher Perkins, grandson Frank Greco, brothers Albert Gonzales & Miguel Marin and Sister Oralia Perez. She will be thrilled to be reunited with her grandparents that helped raise her and especially to be in the presence of our Lord.
Velia was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, sewing and embroidery. She loved to dance and won trophies at the senior citizen center she attended. She loved Fiesta time and attended as many events as possible especially the parades. When the Spurs were playing she was cheering and when they won their Championships she was at the parades too. She loved to celebrate life by decorating and/or dressing to celebrate the occasion/event. For this reason we feel it is appropriate not to limit your dress to dark colors but include spring colors to celebrate her life.
She was a proud patriotic military wife that honored the U.S. Flag faithfully. While her husband was serving his country during the Korean and Vietnams wars, she was the strong mother that cared for their six children and prayed that their father would come home safely. She made a “home-sweet-home” wherever the military assigned them including two assignments in Germany. She voted in presidential elections and was proud of her 80th birthday card she received signed by former President Obama.
She will be deeply missed by her children; Diane Ramirez, Betty Tydelski, Leland DeLeon (Debby), Jill Perkins and Penny DeLeon (David). Her loving grandchildren include; Bryan (Lori) Ramirez, Robin (Nick) Sanchez, Heather Harris (Nick), Natalie Ramirez (Jason), Rhett Perkins, Matthew Tydelski, Jensen Tydelski (Erik), Colt (Julia) Perkins, and Lisa (Eric) Adcock. Her sweet great-grandchildren; Karissa, Destiny and Savannah Sanchez, Jackson Beylik, Nathaniel Ramirez, Mason Reyes, Clark Perkins, Penelope Loeber, Kingston Taylor Perkins, Leila, Kandence and Kalli Joe Adcock.
Her siblings Alice Guerra, Carmen Palacios, Richard Gonzales and Daniel Marin also survive her. Her special nephew Dominic Martinez will miss their Sunday visits. She leaves behind her devoted Chihuahua, Dolly, and mischievous cat, Miss Sweetie, in the care of a daughter.
My mama mia had a firecracker personality and loved deeply as she cared for her family and elders. It has been a long journey through the world of Alzheimer’s she has succumbed to but as her memory faded her heart remembered us with each kiss, smile and laugh she gave us. Now rest in peace and comfort Mama you have loved and taught us well.
