Alicia is preceded in death by her father, Jose Salinas Perizuela (Barcelona, Spain), mother Juanita Zuniga Espinoza (Pachuca, Mexico), and husband Howard Lee McNutt Sr. She is survived by her son, Howard Lee McNutt III, daughter-in-law, Willa McNutt, grandson William McNutt, and granddaughter Kaitlynn McNutt.
Alicia was a hardworking person all her life. She worked miscellaneous jobs in her youth to save money. After she applied and received her US green card, she immigrated to the US and began to work at the downtown stores in Brownsville, TX. She realized that if she can communicate better in English, she has more chances to earn and can increase her sales. She then decided to signed up for some English courses at TSC. She eventually became a naturalized citizen and worked in different jobs in sales.
Alicia eventually met her future husband at one of the stores she worked at. Howard Sr was impressed with her personality. She has shown her strong work ethics and dedication to provide for her family. He made it a point to ask her out and a year later they were married.
On June 12, 1967, Interracial Marriage became legal in Texas. Alicia and Howard were dating by summer of 1968. They got married on June 21, 1969. They had their only child the year after. They were married for 26 years and three weeks until her husband passed away. She would remain a widow till her death.
She had a goal to build her mother a house while helping her husband build a home for their new family. She was able to do both by having both homes paid off by September of 1981.
Her pride was her family. She always made herself available to her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Education was important to her. She was proud that her son and grandson have graduated from college and her granddaughter has just started college.
She worked hard her whole life. She wanted the best for her mother and her family. She was at peace with knowing her goals were met. She was loved and appreciated by her family and others that she had helped.
The impact and influence of her life, actions, and contributions will continue to be felt and remembered to all who know her long after she’s gone. She did very well with the life she had on earth. She was a amazing person.
Thank you mom!
