She leaves behind a legacy of love and a spirit of giving to others.
Gloria was born on February 17, 1950, in Harlingen, Texas. She spent her early years traveling through the central part of the United States with her mother, brother, and sisters as a migrant family. She always remembered this part of her life fondly with stories of friends made, songs sung, and strong bonds formed with her siblings.
She was a graduate of Harlingen High School and proudly entered the workforce as clerical staff for several local businesses. Her life changed once she was introduced to Rene Montalvo, Jr. They began their lives together almost fifty years ago. Gloria always knew she would be a mother one day, and that desire was filled with three adoring children. She put aside a career in order to give all of her spirit to raising her children well and supporting them in all their endeavors. She excelled in creating a gracious, love-filled home where all were welcome, honored, and cared for.
Once her children were all of school-age, Gloria began her work in the San Benito CISD. She held multiple roles within the district in classrooms, library, and central office positions. She was fulfilled by the work she did and counted it a blessing to contribute to her community through the work she did before retiring after 29 years of service.
Gloria was an absolute gem of a person. She would give absolutely all she had to help others. It was no sacrifice to help an ailing loved one, drive you to an appointment, bring a hot meal, or offer to clean your home when you couldn’t. She had the ability to find a way to help others that carried deep meaning and immeasurable treasure.
The crowning glory for Gloria was the arrival of her grandchildren. She delighted in everything about her role as grandmother. She made it a point to be as engaged as possible with all of her grandchildren. From babysitting, to sewing and crocheting for them, attending birthday parties and school performances, cheering at sports competitions, trick or treating, to fishing trips. Gloria delighted in her grandchildren as much, if not more than she delighted in raising her children.
Until speaking became a challenge, Gloria would express how grateful she was to have a life full of beautiful experiences as well as a loving family, many good friends, and a strong relationship with God. She never missed the opportunity to show others they were loved. She is the embodiment of a life well lived.
