

Lydia Martinez, 91, of Brownsville, Texas, but a loyal resident of San Benito, Texas, almost all her life passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Brownsville, Texas. Lydia was born on December 12, 1934, in Brownsville to Eduardo and Hilaria P. Garcia.
Lydia was a resident of San Benito for over 50+ years, where she lived with her husband and raised her two children. She worked at Fruit of Loom and Carter’s in Harlingen for several years. She was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in San Benito. Lydia enjoyed spending time with her family, pets, completing puzzles, word searches, and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed watching novellas, listening to Elvis Presley, playing games, and going to the beach. She was a great friend, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother, and wife. She will be dearly missed.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Guadalupe Y. Martinez, her parents, sisters, Guadalupe G. (Alberto)Trevino, Jesusa (Alonso) Barron, Ernestina (Marcial) Alvarado, and brother, Raul P Garcia.
Lydia is survived by her daughter, Marie Yvette (Keith) Gasca; son Leonardo Robles (Elodia Canas); granddaughters Jasia (Gabriel) Gasca-Reckinger and Kirstin Robles; four great-grandchildren; multiple nieces and nephews; and other relatives.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 3 p.m. - 9 p.m., with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m., at Funeraria Del Angel Funeral Mont Meta Home in San Benito, Texas.
Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, celebrated by Father François. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
