David was a deeply loved and cherished friend whose kindness, humor, generosity, and love of music touched so many lives. Music was a part of his life from a very young age. He and his beloved husband, Don Williams, were longtime members of First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco. Together, David and Don were a huge presence at the church, where they contributed so much to many causes and brought tremendous joy to the entire congregation. David must have served on nearly every committee and in every position at some point!
With his musical talent, David was a member of the church choir for nearly 30 years. He sang with the choir, played in the bell choir, performed as a solo pianist, and occasionally served as a substitute choir director.
David and Don were married for 40 years before Don passed away in 2023. They celebrated their marriage three times, a testament to their love, devotion, and dedication to one another.
David had an uncanny knack for languages. He loved to travel and enjoyed practicing the native language of whatever country he was visiting. He also traveled with the choir, including on a pilgrimage to Transylvania.
David is survived by his sister, Susan Lyon, and her husband, Randy; his nephew, Joshua Lyon and his wife, Becki, and their children, Annabelle and Patrick; his chosen sister-in-law, Rebecca Lyon; his beloved husband Don’s sister, Melva Randolph, and her children, Lorin Randolph, Kevin Randolph, and Cindy Cubis, and his dear friends at Ivy Park. He is survived by his beloved church family at First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco, to whom he was deeply connected and cherished each and everyone there. His church family was an integral part of his life for nearly 40 years.
David will be deeply missed by his family, friends, church community, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Rest in peace David with your beloved Don, together again.
A memorial service will be held for David at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Francisco on November 15th at 1 pm.
