My very favorite teacher at PHSN!! I loved her so much!! She was the very best of them all!! Imagine my surprise when I came to Cobb General Hospital (aka Well Star) and she was the Director of Nursing and I walked into the office and we just could not believe that we were together again!! Needless to say, I got the job and we were so happy to be reunited! I am so sorry to hear of her passing! Another sweet angel to guide us all!! You have always been special to me and will always remain in my heart forever!! Thank you sweet lady for your inspiration and for leading me into the greatest profession of all time!! I practiced as a critical care nurse for over forty years and I hope I made you proud of me!! I love you and look forward to seeing you again one day!!


This is a candid photo of Mrs. Grant from the 1973 Pacemaker Yearbook at The Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing (PHSN).  She was the Coordinator for The Fundamentals of Nursing Department.  Upon hearing of her death, there has been an outpouring of sweet and heartfelt sentiments from our PHSN Alumni attesting to the kindness and compassion of this wonderful lady as she made learning fun for her students.  She will be remembered fondly by the many lives she touched.

We extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs. Alice Potts Grant.  Alice was a proud member of The Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing (PHSN) Class of 1950.  Mrs. Grant served many years as a nursing faculty member at PHSN.  She influenced countless Piedmont students and graduates in the course of her academic and clinical work. My Uncle Hoyt Grant, my Daddy Jack Kirksey and my Aunt Alice.   So many happy memories.  Now they are all together again.  No more pain or tears.   I love them all dearly.

Dear Diane, Hoyt and Mike,

I am sorry to hear about your loss.  "Aunt Alice" was a true joy to be around, lighting the room and lifting everyone's spirit with her laughs and love.  Spending many days at the house in Roswell and great family gatherings at the lake were some of the great highlights of my childhood.  And, what a team Hoyt and Alice were together!  Paula and I are so grateful that they came up to our wedding.  Uncle Hoyt was running around videotaping all the events during this celebration....while Aunt Alice was trying to keep him under control so as not to interrupt.  

But I want to send my special love and appreciation for both Hoyt and Alice being so supportive during the tough times Mary endured from the death of Dan and a divorce.  They opened their arms, home but most importantly, their heart.  Mary enjoyed the many trips they took together, never feeling like the "third wheel".   Alice and Hoyt were always inclusive to everyone.

As I sit here typing this note, I envision the four "girls" sitting around table finally able to catch up on all the news of the families.  I am crying tears of joy because Judy, Alice, Mary and Edna are again together.   What a legacy they all left!
