

Sweet and loving, Betty Jane was happy and positive. She was the calm voice of reason—always looking for the silver lining in everything.
Betty Jane was born on May 4, 1934, in Greensboro, NC, to the late Samuel Walter Davis and Helen Minerva Hight Davis. Betty Jane graduated from Greensboro Senior High School where she was yearbook editor. She majored in Education at Duke University where she was president of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Betty Jane taught school and then went on to have a full and meaningful life dedicated to her family, her faith, and her community.
She was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the church circle. Betty Jane was also an active member of the Greensboro Symphony Guild where she received the Golden Note Award, the North Carolina Historical Book Club, the Greensboro Legal Auxiliary, the Yardbirds Garden Club, the Investment Club and several bridge clubs. Her involvement in these groups reflected her love of music, reading, and learning.
In 2019, Betty Jane relocated to Atlanta, where she spent her final years surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 40 years, Harry Joseph O’Connor Jr.
Betty Jane is survived by her two children, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
A funeral service celebrating Betty Jane’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia. Interment will follow at some time in the future at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Greensboro, North Carolina
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Betty Jane’s honor to Holy Innocents’ Episcopal Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
