

Bobby Clyde Usher, 79, died peacefully June 23, 2015 after a brief battle with leukemia. He was born November 3, 1935 to Peter Clyde and Kathleen Pugh Usher. Bobby grew up in Bennettsville, SC and graduated from Bennettsville High School in 1954. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Wofford College in 1958 and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, The National Honor Society of Scabbard and Blade and Blue Key national honor fraternity. In addition, he graduated from the Stanford University Executive Program’s Graduate School of Business in 1979. Bobby was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge as a Captain. He began his career with Atlanta-based Crawford and Company in 1959 as an insurance adjuster and retired as an executive after 36 years of service. Bobby was a longtime member of St. Martin in the Fields Episcopal Church. During his retirement, Bobby enjoyed his involvement with the Sandy Springs Rotary Club. He initiated the club’s “Coats for Kids” program which provides hundreds of coats to the Community Action Center. He was honored with The Paul Harris Fellow award in appreciation for his outstanding service. Bobby was an avid bass fisherman and deer hunter and loved his garden and grape vines. Bobby is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife and of 57 years Unita Mikell Usher (Skipper); by his son Mikell Usher (Monique); by his daughters Sloan Usher Stewart (Bill) and Beth Usher Smith (Sam); and his beloved grandchildren Erik Calhoun Usher; Nicholas Moore Smith; Margaret Sloan Stewart; Anna Ryan Usher; William Mikell Smith; Ann Mikell Stewart and Kathleen Elizabeth Smith.
