

Brencie Werner, 70, of Sandy Springs, GA, died February 9, 2012. Brencie was born February 22, 1941 in Jacksonville, FL to James Allen and Bernice Perry Davis. She graduated from Hapeville High School in 1958. In 1962, she was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Emory University. That same year she started a career with the Center for Disease Control as a research scientist. She was awarded a Master of Science from Georgia State University in 1983. She served as the secretary for the Little Cumberland Island Association. Brencie cared deeply for historic preservation and received awards from Sigma Pi Kappa, the National Council of State Garden Clubs, and various other organizations for her service. She became an Interior Design Assistant in 1973 and earned the title of Master Gardener in 1984. At the High Museum of Arts, she served as a docent. Her love of gardening motivated her to earn an Associate Degree in Applied Science in Landscape Technology from DeKalb College. She was a member of many garden clubs and received, in addition to many other awards, a Presidential Citation in recognition for her contribution to the Garden Club of Georgia. She co-authored the book Gardening ‘Round Atlanta. In addition to these accomplishments, she felt her greatest achievement was to teach swimming to toddlers and pre-schoolers for over forty summers and was known by her pupils as “Miss Brencie”. She is survived by her husband, Richard Werner; daughter, Siri Werner; son, Victor Werner and daughter-in-law Alice; sisters, Vickie Boudreaux and Kathie Rainwater; brothers, Jim Davis, Perry Davis, and Charles Davis; granddaughters, Brooke and Laura Werner. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.
