

He was born to the late Norman Chaloux and Ruth Chaloux Mannheim, Aug. 11, 1948, in Barre, Vt. He graduated from Spalding High School in 1966 and received a BA in Business Administration from Castleton State College. He earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy from Florida State University in 1979.
Bruce married Barbara Chaloux, née Anderson, in 1970. They lived together with their daughters in Florida, Vermont and Virginia before relocating to Atlanta in 1998.
Bruce, a longtime leader in the world of online-learning, most recently headed the Sloan Consortium, a nonprofit organization devoted to the growth of online learning. Prior to joining the Sloan Consortium, he served for 14 years as director of the Southern Regional Education Board’s Electronic Campus. He previously held positions at Virginia Tech and Castleton State College.
Above all, Bruce was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed by surviving family members including his wife, Barbara; siblings Cynthia Chaloux George and Brent Chaloux; daughters Kerri Hinds and Danielle Robinson; son-in-laws Lance Hinds and Brett Robinson; grandchildren Jackson and Anderson Hinds, and John, Joseph, Anna and Michael Robinson; and ten nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Chaloux Family Scholarship Fund for Online Learning Leadership.
