With the unbearable grief and heartbreak that follows the sudden and tragic death of a beloved son, the family of Cameron Alexander Jensen regretfully announces with great sorrow that Cameron departed this life on April 29, 2010. He was 19 years old and attending college as a freshman at Gainesville State College.
Cameron was born in Atlanta on December 28, 1990. He grew up in Cobb County. He attended Sope Creek Elementary, Dickerson Middle School and graduated from Walton High School in 2009. Cameron participated in Boy Scouts and was a proud member of Troop 772 in Marietta. Through scouting, Cameron developed a passion for camping and hiking that included two summer 100-mile treks at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico.
Cameron started snow skiing in Colorado at age 7, and each year thereafter he continued to advance his skills and to develop his passion for alpine skiing. At 13, he started skiing at Crested Butte Mountain where he furthered his skills and looked forward to the day he would ski the North Face, the most difficult terrain reserved only for advanced skiers. In March of this year, Cameron and his brother Nick proudly conquered the North Face.
While in high school, Cameron started rock climbing. In the past several years, Cameron climbed cliffs along the Chattahoochee River and developed his skills on cliffs in North Carolina and Colorado. He loved to read about expeditions to Everest, K2 and other world famous mountains. He dreamed that one day he would be accomplished enough to accept the challenge of climbing one of those famous mountains.
Cameron truly developed an enthusiasm and excitement for the mountains in Colorado. His goal was to live in Crested Butte, Colorado, and finish his college education at Western State College in Gunnison. He aspired to learn new skills that would allow him to work and live in the Colorado mountains he loved so dearly.
Cameron was baptized in November 2005 at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, where he has been a member. In 2007, Cameron went on a mission trip to Mexico where he and other youth of the church helped with the construction of houses for the poor.
Cameron is survived by his mother Diane, his father Chris, and his brother Nick; his Grandmother Lorraine Clary in Shreveport, Louisana; his Uncles Michael Clary and Robert Hovingh in Shreveport; his Aunts Susan Hovingh in Shreveport and Jacquelyn Tracy in West Palm Beach, Florida; and his Cousins Shannon Rupert in Shreveport and Theresa Tracy in West Palm Beach.
MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS MAY BE MADE TO JOHNSON FERRY BAPTIST CHURCH IN MEMORY OF CAMERON.
