Carrol Frederick “Goose” Bailey, 87, of Marietta, Georgia passed away on August 1, 2011 following a brief illness. Goose Bailey was born in Francisco, IN on August 5, 1923 to Mutt and Pha Bailey. In 1943, he married his longtime sweetheart, Katy Cummins before going to fight in WWII. He was a combat veteran who reunited with his army buddies every year.
Goose started his own building business until his retirement in 1990. Sandy Springs United Methodist Church has been his church home since moving to Atlanta in 1964 where he spent much of his free time volunteering his building skills. Between volunteering at his church, working at the lakehouse and helping to fix up his grandkids’ homes, he stayed busier than ever, always eager to lend a helping to hand to anyone who needed it. Building relationships was the most important thing to Goose, as he became friends with most everyone he’s ever met. As the patriarch of our family, he showed us by example how to be a devoted and loving husband, by witnessing his marriage to his wife, Katy, of 68 years. He was an adoring husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. “Baba Goose”, as he was known by his family, is survived by his wife, Katy Bailey; his sons, Fred and Danny Bailey; his two daughters in-law, Fran Bailey and Lana Bailey; his granddaughters, Shari Martin, Michelle Webster, Carey Yarem, Leah Bailey, and Sarah Bailey; and his great grandchildren, Joey Webster, Frankie Webster, Michael Harvey, Bailey Webster, Matthew Harvey, Katie Webster, Brendan Yarem, Natalie Yarem and Calvin Spater. Services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 11:00am at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church, 85 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Pipe Organ Fund. We are all better for having known "Goose" Bailey. He will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
