Atlanta, GA – Diana Margarita Arteche, a long-time resident of the Dunwoody area, died on July 4, 2019 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 4, 1929 in Havana, Cuba.

Diana was once a prima donna ballerina in Cuba. Diana’s first starring role as a solo artist was with the National Ballet of Cuba, and in 1951 she became a prima donna ballerina with the Alicia Alonso Company, Cuba’s finest ballet troupe. In 1952 she formed her own school of ballet; and in 1953 she went to Mexico with the Folkloric Group of Cuba and danced as the solo ballerina artist at the Fine Arts Theater of Mexico; the University of Mexico and on television in Mexico City. During the 1950’s Diana was the prima donna ballerina in many ballets such as Les Sylphides, Giselle, and Aurora’s Wedding. The Nutcracker Suite, Coppelia, Apollo and Prince Igor. Her favorite role was Odette in Swan Lake.

Diana enjoyed classical music, going to plays and ballet performances. She had a wonderful smile that could light up a room. She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Miguel Arteche; her two sons Albert and Alex Marquez; her grandchildren Arlene Marquez, Paco and Penelope Marquez and her two great grandchildren, Gabriela (Ella) and Alejandro Sturgis as well as several nieces and nephews all which were very dear and brought great joy to her life. A funeral service will be held on July 10, 2019 at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy springs, with a private burial.
