Donald Paul Lofe Sr.
May 8, 1928 – May 14, 2019
Donald Paul Lofe, Sr, Lieutenant JG Retired, US Navy, age 91, passed away peacefully following a brief illness. His loving family was by his side.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he lived in several states including California, Alabama, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Missouri, Texas, Louisiana, and then retiring in Cumming, Georgia. Don so loved his country that he enlisted into the US Navy in 1954. He served on the USS Hancock CVA19 as a Supply Officer receiving an honorable discharge. He had a successful professional career working as an Accountant for several major corporations. In his spare time, he was the ultimate “Mr. Fix-it” and enjoyed troubleshooting anything with an engine. Don was a leader in every sense of the word. He was a devoted Christian who supported many Catholic ministries including St. Vincent DePaul and also served as a Sacristan at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He had a terrific sense of humor and his loving sarcasm was second to none. He led by example giving unselfishly to his family, church, and others in need. He never complained no matter what cross he had to bear.
He was a wonderful Friend, Husband, Father and even better Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. He loved all animals but especially the dogs in his life – Ginger, Melinda, Kurt, Kristy, Duffy, Spike, Spanky, Duchess, and Peaches. He was often “busted” at the dinner table sneaking a table scrap or three to his four legged friends.
Don leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Jean Buck Lofe, and three sons; Don Jr. (Lorraine), Dave (Luwanna), and Tom (Marie). He is also survived by six grandchildren, Tom, Michelle, Kimberly, John, Don III, and Lauren; and one Great-Grandchild, Owen.
Visitation will be held at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3740 Holtzclaw Road, Cumming, Georgia on Monday, May 20 beginning at 10AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11AM immediately followed by a reception at the church. A burial service with Military Honors will commence at Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, Georgia, at 3PM.
The family is forever grateful for the comfort and care provided to Don by his Brightstar caregivers and Northside Hospital Forsyth staff. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Vincent DePaul care of Good Shepherd Catholic Church or the Humane Society of Forsyth County.
