

Eleanor Eidson Foster died at her home in Cumming on January 29, 2014 due to pulmonary fibrosis and other age related illnesses. She was 93. She was born on December 18, 1920 to William Jefferson (Dick) Eidson and Louise Ivey Eidson at the Edison’s Mill operated by her grandfather on what was then Eidson Mill Road (now Lakemoore Drive) in Buckhead. She also was the third great granddaughter of Henry Irby, one of the original settlers of Buckhead. She attended R.L. Hope Grammar School and North Fulton High School where she was on the girls’ basketball team. She was a bookkeeper and financial manager during her career. She worked at Puritan Mills in downtown Atlanta on land where the future Falcon’s stadium will be located. She also worked for Lagerquist Insurance Company in Buckhead. She retired at the age of 83 after 26 years as the Accounting Manager at Southeastern Securities (now Everest Security Insurance Company) in Alpharetta. She was a long-time member of the historic Sardis United Methodist Church and later, a charter member of St. John United Methodist where she especially enjoyed the friends and activities of the TLC group. She was married in 1937 to Eugene L. Foster of McDonough and they lived on North Fulton Drive in Buckhead for several years before moving to ‘the country’ in Dunwoody where they enjoyed hosting frequent square dances at “Foster’s Barn” on Mt. Vernon Highway. In 1978, they built a home on Lake Lanier in Cumming where they enjoyed the lake with family and friends. Her husband died in 1981 and, in retirement, she was the full-time caregiver for her mother who lived to within a month of her 106th birthday. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Carolyn Eidson Long. She is survived by her son, William L. (Bill) Foster of Athens; nieces, Dr. Judy Long (Susan Steffey) of Cumming, Cheryl (Bobby) Dickens of Roswell and Debbi (Doug) Gentile of Cumming; a nephew, Larry (Peggy) Walker of Lawrenceville; and several loving cousins. The family wishes to thank Tracy Brady, Joan Davis, Mishell Burton and Kathie Clark, along with the staff of Halcyon Hospice for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy. NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30318 with Dr. Gil Watson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eagle Ranch Christian Youth Home, P.O.
