Ellen Peniston Rafeedie passed away at age 81 on October 22, 2018 from multiple chronic health conditions that took their toll on her. Ellen was born on August 5, 1937 in College Park, Georgia to Thomas Jackson Peniston and Virginia DeVaughn Peniston. Ellen attended E. Rivers Elementary School and graduated from the Westminster School in 1955. She also attended Auburn University. She was predeceased by her brothers Paul Eugene Peniston and Thomas Jackson Peniston, Jr. Ellen is survived by her husband Dr. Suhayl Rafeedie and three sons: McLendon Peniston Rafeedie (Jane), David Peniston Rafeedie, and Dr. Steven Peniston Rafeedie (Victoria). She is also survived by four grandchildren: Alex Rafeedie, Ann Rafeedie, TJ Rafeedie and Michael Rafeedie. Ellen’s health restricted once an active, talented and productive life style. For many years she taught hundreds of toddlers to swim at the Northside YMCA and also at her home. Ellen was very active in her husband’s dental profession. She was president of
the Georgia Dental Association Alliance and also served as Trustee of the American Dental Association Alliance and Editor of the Alliance Newsletter. She pursued numerous artistic avenues such as painting, calligraphy and stained glass. She also enjoyed genealogy and creating scrap books for her family. Ellen was a member of The Joseph Habersham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. A memorial service will be held at Sandy Springs Chapel,136 Mount Vernon Hwy, NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11 AM .A reception and visitation will follow the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to a charity of your choice.
