

Dr. Ernest Wayne Swift, more affectionately known as Ernie, passed away on Wednesday July 3, 2024. Ernie was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend. Everyone who knew him, loved him, and he loved them back fiercely.
Ernie loved education and gaining knowledge, in nineteen seventy four he graduated from the University of Oklahoma with his PhD in Philosophy. He instilled his love for learning in his grandchildren, whom, have chosen to follow Ernie’s footsteps and eventually pursue a Doctorate degree. Ernie went on to be a professor for Georgia State University, teaching finance in the college of Business. For a time, Ernie also was interim dean, after years of sharing his knowledge of finance, Ernie retired from Georgia State University.
His love for finance lead him to teach many banking programs all over the country, as well as all over the world. Ernie was an avid hunter and outdoors man, he was a lifetime member of Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, RMEF. Ernie loved life and loved doing exciting things.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife of thirty two years, Rebecca Sue Swift, his children; David (Trish) Swift, Kelly (Marc) Haddle, Jimmy Hathcox, Rex (Lina) Hathcox, Brandy (Del) Hathcock. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ernie is preceded in death by his grandson, Jason Patrick Hathcox.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the CJD foundation or Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
