She was the devoted wife of Roland Fredette for 63 years, who passed away nine months earlier, on September 18, 2021. She was the loving mother of Denise Dale (James), Joseph Fradet (Ana Liza), Paul Roland Fredette (deceased), Henry Fredette (Rosilene), Renee Skidmore (Tim), Michelle Fredette (deceased), Roland Fredette (Cathy) and Paul George (Linda) Fredette. She cherished her 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all of us.
Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity.
Our mother was a source of inspiration, Super Mom to us all. Growing up, she was always there for us, with energy and passionate faith in action. She instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, service to those in need, and protecting the dignity of all human life. She organized shows for kids to entertain the elderly in the nursing home and took us, as well as grandchildren, to peacefully demonstrate our commitment to affirm and respect life womb-to-tomb. She taught us to pray the Rosary, entrusted us to our Mother, Mary, and looked to Our Lady for strength and guidance. Our mother was a true role model.
Mom was musical and playful. She enjoyed rocking babies and singing in her native tongue, French lullabies and hymns, including C'est Le Mois de Marie and Il Est Né le Divin Enfant. She initiated pots and pans brigades, marching and singing "When the Saints Go Marching In!" She'd sit on the floor with a child, rowing together while singing "Row, Row, Row Your Boat."
Mom was athletic. As a child, she lived on a lake. She enjoyed water skiing and ice skating. She was an accomplished diver. As a young woman, she won ballroom dancing contests. She was sought after as a dance partner, indeed! After having five children, she surprised and entertained the children one day by walking on her hands.
Mom loved life. She loved birds, vacationing at Saint George Island, family reunions on the Fourth of July with the Boston Pops playing patriotic songs. She loved celebrating Christmas and caroling. One of Mom's most courageous moments of which she was very proud was sitting in the gunner seat during a flight in a Huey helicopter at the Aviation Heritage Park in Alabama. She especially enjoyed her little, energetic MaltiPom, Jolly.
The oldest of seven children, mom's parents were Henri and Yvonne Martineau, of Massachusetts. Four siblings have passed away. Her brother, Emile Martineau, passed away a few years ago. Within the last year, her brother Rene Martineau, and sister, Julie Brunelle, have also died. Still living are Andrew Martineau, of New Hampshire, Diane Brunelle, of New Hampshire and Jeanne Lemieux, of Massachusetts.
In honor of our mother, Flore, a stained glass chapel window was installed in a brand new natural, wholistic, life-affirming women's health care facility, Guiding Star Wakota, in West Saint Paul, Minnesota, for which her daughter, Renee serves as the board chair.
A viewing and Rosary will be held on Wednesday, July 6, at 7PM at the Sandy Springs Chapel. Her funeral Mass will be on Thursday, July 7, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, in Sandy Springs, Georgia, at 10AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Flore's memory may be made to the Faustman Lab - Cure Diabetes Fund, https://www.faustmanlab.org/, or Guiding Star Wakota, https://guidingstarwakota.org/.
Mom, you will always be in our hearts and we will never forget you. We love you so much. May you and Dad soon be at rest in the arms of Our Heavenly Father.
