Gloria Hausman Pease died peacefully in her sleep on December 26 at the age of 88. Born in Washington, DC to Philomena Magnotto and Richard Hausman, she moved to Atlanta at the age of 10 and remained there nearly the rest of her life. She married Frank Pease Jr., her self-described “soul mate,” and enjoyed 46 happy years together with him. She is survived by her four children, son Larry Pease and his wife Elizabeth, daughter Carol Tucker and her husband John, son Jimmy Pease, and daughter Susan Westmoreland and her husband Van, niece Cheryl Broder and husband Phillip, as well as seven grandchildren, Copeland, Michelle, Jack, Megan, Caitlin, Sammy and John.
She was born into a large Italian-American family during the height of the Great Depression, instilling a fierce devotion to family, a humble appreciation for all of her blessings, and a tireless work ethic; she paid her own way through college, earning a degree from the Atlanta Division of the University of Georgia, embarked on a successful career selling real estate later in life, and even after suffering a debilitating stroke earlier this year, never gave up the fight to regain her mobility.
Through good times and bad, she was sustained by her love of family, her positive attitude and her zeal for life, which never faltered through her 88 years, providing inspiration to all of her loved ones. Her grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as Gigi, recall her infinite love, her stories about family, and trips to her lakeside home in Roswell, where she lived for nearly 30 years.
When she was a child, a visit to the local theater to see a Flash Gordon movie sparked a lifelong passion for space and astronomy that culminated last year, when she traveled with her family to Nashville to see the much-anticipated total solar eclipse. It’s fitting that she’s now finally able to explore the heavens that fascinated her throughout a long and happy life.
