A Celebration of Life visitation will be held on Friday, March 23 at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mount Vernon Hwy, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Visitors are welcome between the hours of 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A private burial with immediate family will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville, South Carolina.
Grady was born July 14, 1921 in Greenville, South Carolina to James & Jessie (Smith) Poole. After graduating from Parker High School in 1939, Grady served as a radio operator for the Air Force in London & Paris during World War II. After being honorably discharged, Grady attended and graduated from Furman University in 1949. On December 24, 1945 he married the former Thelma Louise Gotshaw in Greenville. Grady was employed as a financial credit manager and was Sear’s leading credit manager in the country. In 1970, Grady testified to Congress to outline best credit practices in establishing guidelines for the Fair Credit Reporting Act bill. Grady retired from Sears in 1986 after 41 years with the company. During his retirement, he was an avid golfer and won many amateur senior golf championships at the Misty Valley Golf Club. He walked 18 holes, three times a week until he was 91. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his family.
Grady is survived by his son, Grady C Poole Jr (Chip) and daughter-in-law Susan Poole of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Jessie, his brothers Gilbert and Harold, and his wife Thelma Louise Poole (Gotshaw) in 2013.
