

Horace “Jack” Allen of Sandy Springs, GA passed away October 8, aged 91 years. Jack Allen served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946 as a naval hospital corpsman. He then attended Lee University in Cleveland TN, earning an associate degree. Mr. Allen worked in Atlanta as an accountant for the U.S. Postal Service for over 40 years until his retirement. Having grown up on a farm, he enjoyed spending his free time tending his backyard garden where he grew tomatoes, corn, and many other vegetables. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lee Allen and his three children, Mark, Steve and Carol Tobias. Mr. Allen is also survived by his sister, Margaret Gilbert of Bostwick GA; by his brother-in-law Fred Popejoy of Spokane WA; by seven grandchildren who lovingly knew him as “Papa” and by one great grandchild. Mr. Allen’s parents were Charlie Allen and Inez Johnson Allen of Monroe, GA. He is preceded in death by a sister, Mildred “Bid” Harrison and a brother, Hulon. The family will host a visitation on Wednesday, October 12 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Home, 136 Mount Vernon Highway, Atlanta 30328. Services will be held Thursday, October 13 at 12:30 pm at the Sandy Springs Chapel Funeral Home with interment following in Arlington Memorial Park with Military Honors.
