

Colonel James C. Martin, U.S. Army (Ret) passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at the age of 92. He was born and raised in Terrell, Texas and was the sole survivor of twelve. During his 31 years of service, he served in three wars. In World War II, he was a Platoon Leader in the 346th Regiment, 87th Infantry Division. In the Korean War, he was a Company Commander in the 314th Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. In the Vietnam War, he was the Commander of an Army Intelligence unit. His other major assignments included: 33rd Infantry Regiment, Panama Canal Zone, Weapons Department, The Infantry School, Fort Benning, Georgia, The Army General Staff, The Pentagon, Washington, D.C., Headquarters, English U.S. Army, Republic of Korea, Department of Foreign Languages, USMA, West Point, New York, and the Nation Security Agency, Ft. Meade, Maryland. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, as well as the Army Foreign Area Specialist Training Program (Russian). Colonel Martin is also a graduate of the University of Georgia and completed post graduate work at Columbia University, New York. His major military awards are two each of the following: Combat Infantry Badge; Legion of Merit; Meritorious Service Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal. In retirement he was honored by being inducted into the Army Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame. He is survived by his beloved wife, Claudette; two sons, James C. Jr., of Kauai, Hawaii, and Gary, of Woodstock, Georgia; daughter, Jennifer, of Marietta, Georgia; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Nell, and daughter, Linda Blackford. A funeral service will be help on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 2:00pm at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt. Vernon Hwy., Sandy Springs, GA 30328. The family will receive friends one hour prior (from 1:00pm until 2:00pm); burial and full military honors will take place at Arlington Memorial Park following the service.
