Alma "Jean" Lawrence, of Dunwoody, passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016. She was born in 1935, the loving youngest of three, to the late Rev. Carl and Alma L. Ahlbrand. Jean was a graduate of Kokomo High school and Valparaiso University where she obtained a degree in education. As a Lutheran minister’s daughter, she was a devout member of Rivercliff Lutheran church for 40 years. She loved to sing in the choir, attend bible study, and serve children of all ages. Jean was a chief greeter and President of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, which she took great pride in. She was a dedicated philanthropist, through her church, schools, and “meals on wheels”. She was also known as the foundation, spiritual center, and CEO of our family; social director, GE career counselor for her husband, and an avid St Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. As a sports nut, she loved playing tennis, golf, and looked forward to every bridge group and book club afternoon. Jean never missed an opportunity to cheer on her children and grandchildren, who she adored, in sports and other pursuits. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to Alzheimer’s Association and American Cancer Society. She is preceded in death by her sister, Margarete Ahlbrand Moore. She is survived by her husband, the love of her life for almost 58 years, William H. Lawrence; children, Bill (Cindy), Carol Anne Miller (Bo), and David Lawrence; 5 granddaughters; brother, Dr. Roland C. Ahlbrand; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at the Rivercliff Lutheran Church, 8750 Roswell Rd., Atlanta, GA 30350, on Monday, January 25, 2016, from 6:30pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at Rivercliff Lutheran Church on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 11:00am with a reception to follow; Rev. Jeffrey Jordan officiating. The burial will take place that afternoon at Arlington Memorial Park.
