He was born on January 5, 1945, in Anniston, Alabama, to the late Mr. Benjamin and Mrs. Ruby Humphries.
A proud American, Jerry honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded The Purple Heart for his sacrifices. His courage and dedication to his fellow soldiers reflected the strength of character that defined his life. He then went on to earn an accounting degree from the University of Alabama, ROLLTIDE! He retired as a partner from KPMG. He then ran a successful tax practice, Humphries P. C., for 20 years.
Jerry a devout follower of God and the word, was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, where he enjoyed worship and friends in Christ. Jerry found great joy in the outdoors, whether fishing 30 miles offshore, hunting with family, or scuba diving with God’s creations under the ocean. He also enjoyed coaching little league baseball, sharing his love of the game and his wisdom with younger generations. A man of many passions, he took special pride in his Bright Red Corvette—his favorite ride and a reflection of his spirited personality.
Above all, Jerry’s greatest love was his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 29 years, Lisa Humphries; a proud father to his sons, Frank and John, and his daughter, Amanda; along with their spouses and a deeply cherished grandfather to three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Ruby Humphries, and his brother, Bill Humphries. He leaves behind his loving wife, children, grandchildren, a host of cousins in Alabama, and many dear friends across the states who will miss him greatly.
Jerry will be remembered for his mentorship, his kind heart, his laughter, and his unwavering love for his family. His memory will live on in the stories he told, the lessons he taught, and the lives he touched. To those who loved him, he is simply unforgettable.
