Lawrence B. (Jim) Veal, Jr. of Sandy Springs, GA passed away on August 15, 2013. He was born January 15, 1931 in Rutledge, GA, however his mother, Martha, and father Lawrence, Sr. (Turk) moved with Jim the next day to their home in Conyers, GA. He grew up in Conyers and graduated from Conyers High School in 1947. He was Class President during his high school years. He attended North Georgia College and the University of Georgia where he played in the school orchestras of both and he graduated from Georgia State University. He then joined the U.S. Army Reserve and spent eight years in the active reserve with the 81st Infantry Division. He entered the Aetna Casualty and Surety Co, and later the Continental Insurance Co. where he retired after thirty years. He then worked with a Travel Agency, the travel desk for ten years and retired again. He started playing trombone in the eighth grade and went on to play in marching bands in college and with dance bands through the years. He last played with the New Horizons Band. He did volunteer work with the Dorothy Benson Senior Complex in Sandy Springs where he worked in the fitness center. He is survived by his daughter, Marcy McDaniel and granddaughter, Chelsea McDaniel and several cousins. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Sandy Springs Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 26, 2013, in Eastview Cemetery, Conyers, Georgia.
