Louise Lynne Bruney, 82, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, passed away on February 24. Louise was born to the late Loy and Villa Freeman on July 8, 1931 in Martins Ferry, Ohio. Louise graduated from Martins Ferry High School in 1948 and received a BA in Education from Bowling Green University in Bowling Green, Ohio in 1952. She married her high school sweetheart, Fred Bruney in 1953. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage on December 28th, 2013. She was a high school Home Economics teacher and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. Throughout her husband’s professional football career, Louise lived in many places such as Columbus, OH; Concord, MA; Medford Lakes and Medford, NJ; Dunwoody and Alpharetta, GA; Tampa, FL., Whippany, NJ and Indianapolis, IN. Upon retirement, they lived in Ocean Isle Beach, NC and Sandy Springs, GA. Louise was a loving and incredibly supportive wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt and friend. She faced adversities, such as illnesses in her life, with faith, a sense of humor and a “can-do” spirit. She was a role model to her friends and family; her sense of fun was shared by all those who knew and loved her. She loved to cook, sew, decorate—and to rearrange her children’s furniture. She has left her family and friends a legacy of a life well-lived Louise is survived by her five children : Chuck Bruney and John Giffer of Sandy Springs, GA; Susan and Jerry Schretter of Ridgewood, NJ; Lori and Victor Johnston of Wheaton, IL; Becky and T.R. Dellin of Chicago, IL; and Rich and Lori Bruney of Acworth, GA. She also is survived by 12 grandchildren: Kristen, Michael, Jennifer and Julia Schretter; Erick and Katie Johnston; Charlotte, Jack and Caroline Dellin; and Abbie, Sara and Jake Bruney. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28th from 5 to 7 pm. In addition, visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2pm -- followed by the funeral service at 3 pm. All services will be held at Sandy Springs Chapel and Funeral Home, 136 Mount Vernon Highway NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328 (404) 255-8511.
