

Loy Harmon Stewman (known to friends and family as “Slim”), 95, of Atlanta, GA, died March 26, 2012. He was a bluegrass and country musician known for playing guitar. He played with a group called the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys. The radio broadcast Slim’s performances. He also used his musical talent to play the piano at Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Stewman was a Baptist deacon. He was a member of Dunwoody Baptist Church. He founded Stewman Painting and Decorating, which led him to work on some of Atlanta’s finest homes. Slim was a real family man. He was a loving husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. It was a delight for him to see his gift of music passed on to three generations. He is predeceased by his daughter, Susan Elaine Stewman and son, Jerry Howard Stewman. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Helen Stewman; sons, Paul Stewman (Sandra), Steve Stewman (Toni), and Vic Stewman (Janet); (9) grandchildren and (17) great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Arlington Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.
