Born on July 13, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the second oldest of five children. Mark was raised in Birmingham, Michigan where his grandfather fostered a lifelong love for Michigan football by bringing him to games throughout his childhood. Mark attended Brother Rice High School and went on to Western Michigan University.
Mark had a career in construction, initially working for his father at Darin and Armstrong. He later ventured out on his own and founded, Darin & Associates, and after many years retired with his family.
He spent his weekends on the go and could be found at the butcher or the farmers market. Mark's leisure time involved long daily walks with his rescue dogs while listening to The Allman Brothers and working outside. He loved talking about politics, his challenging 1989 Detroit Marathon, college football, and the weather to anyone who wanted to listen. He talked to everyone and anyone. He appreciated the simple pleasures of life including the latest Netflix series, exploring his Italian heritage, and finishing the night off with an indulgent dessert.
Mark will forever be remembered by his wife Kathy, his children Courtney (Tom) and Alyse, grandson Liam (nickname "Opie"), and his siblings Lynn (Jeff), Bill (Laurie), Missy (Nick), and Jeff (Aubree), along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Joan and father Bill.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in Mark's memory to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), a cause that was close to his heart. Simply click the name below to be sent to the donations page.
A private family gathering will be held to honor and remember Mark's life. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
