Martha Schmerler

Mrs. Martha Walsh Schmerler, age 89, of Sandy Springs died March 19, 2014. She was born in Athens, Ohio and lost her father when she was only 12. Martha was a graduate of Ohio University, where she became an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority and remained an active member until her death. After graduation, she met and married Bernie Schmerler in New York, who preceded her in death 21 years ago. Martha and Bernie had 4 children, one of which they lost at 6 months of age, Charles Michael. Her career was in wholesale apparel and gift sales at the Atlanta Merchandise Mart. After retirement she was an active volunteer with the Community Action Center for 10 years and the St. Vincent DePaul Society for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernie Schmerler and her son Charles Michael Schmerler. She is survived by her Daughters, Barbara Schmerler of Montrose, CO; Beth Caldwell and her Husband Rick Caldwell of Roswell; Son, Loren Schmerler of Roswell and 3 grandchildren, Alexis, Stephen, and Megan. A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held Monday, March 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4449 Northside Drive, Atlanta, GA 30327. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Holy Spirit Catholic Church or to the Catholic Archdiocese. Inurnment Services will be held in Daytona Beach, Florida.
